Street Fighter Font was developed and published by Capcom since 1987; commonly abbreviated SF, its first game premiered that year and five sequels and spin-offs followed over time. Takashi Nishiyama designed the initial game in this series while Hiroshi Matsumoto developed the second.

Both titles featured Ryu, an international martial artist competing against 10 competitors from five different nations in an annual tournament known as Street Fighter II (released in 1991) with one-on-one fighting battles available for PS2, Xbox and home computers with multiple character selections to select from – Ken being Ryu’s archrival and Ryu facing off against Ken.

Ken is Ryu’s most ardent rival – though in his case Ken is Ryu’s rivalry was limited only between them two and 11 competitors from five nations taking part. Street Fighter II first set its standards, featuring one-on-1 fighting action, offering players wide array of characters to select.
