Rolling Stone font is an American monthly periodical founded in 1967 by Jann Wenner (Berkeley University graduate) and Ralph Gleason (music critic for San Francisco Chronicle). Their first issue appeared that year. Jann borrowed money from family and friends in order to pursue his passion for music, his dream of rock and rollerdom, and fund it. On the cover of his first glossy was John Winston Ono, known as a legendary figure within rock ‘n’ roll culture.
Jann Wenner loved and desired rock n’ roll; it was in his blood. So he decided to launch his own music magazine with the English proverb: “A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss”. It proved popular and even inspired Bob Dylan’s song: “Like A Rolling Stone”. Rick Griffin designed the logo for this issue’s initial printing; he is best known as an author and illustrator of underground comics as well as psychedelic posters, displayed around San Francisco during the 1960s.
