Block Capitals Font

Block Capitals is a sans-serif typeface font that’s both modern and fresh cut and developed by k-type. The family has three widths (Narrow, Normal and Wide),; and it is quite interesting that the Bold weights are inspired by quite realistic squared nets – 3×5, 4×5 and 5×5. However, the typeface breaks free from the grid every now and then through very slightly rounded stroke weights, extremely narrow letter fitting and tight kerning. The goal is to preserve the rather muscular and very elemental appearance of strictly geometrical characters while adding just slight elements that make the characters more stylistically and practically balanced.

Still, letters and numbers are aligned from left to right but never on the capline, while, at the other extreme, the vertical end of Q is never below the baseline. Diacritics are tiny signifiers of modest size; accented characters running as far as they need to, but no farther; and thus the leading on multitudes of lines of text can be minimal.
