Billabong International Limited is a company specializing in surfing apparel. Along with clothing Billabong also offers accessories like watches and backpacks as skateboard and snowboard gear under different brand names. Founded by Gordon and Rena Merchant in 1973 Billabong Trading went public on the Australian Securities Exchange in August 2000. The name “Billabong” comes from Wiradjuri language meaning a creek that flows during seasons.
By September 2013 Billabong International Limited owned known brands including Von Zipper, Element, Honolua Surf Company, Kustom, Palmers Surf, Xcel Tigerlily Sector 9 RVCA among others. However there was a change in ownership structure, in 2018 when Boardriders Inc. Owner of Quiksilver brand. Acquired Billabong International Limited.
