The HBO logo features its initials in an eye-catching black hue and all capitals font. “O,” for “HBO”, is surrounded by an apparent white circle to help distinguish this logo from others with similar names. However, like other long-standing companies that have existed for some time now, HBO has made various alterations and improvements to their logo since first being unveiled. When first unveiled, their initial logo focused on spelling out “HBO”.
HBO used this logo from 1972 until 1975 and featured “Home Box Office” and its name emblazoned across a rectangle fashioned by stylizing representation of lit marquee lights. A ticket stub appeared near “Box,” representing its initials. In 1975, Bemis Balkind created an original logo for HBO. As HBO had acquired immense recognition over time, its logo was changed to include only “HBO,” in order to reflect this fact and no longer require its full name in marketing materials.
