The idea of a brand-new grotesk is without doubt very silly – there are already plenty of these typefaces in the world and, frankly speaking, nothing can be more beautiful than the original Gill. The sans-serif chapter of typography is now over, hundreds of technically perfect copies of Syntax and Frutiger which are albeit based on the cool din-aesthetics. The only opportunity to find inspiration is very far away, A grotesk does not offer as much variety as a serif typeface and it is dull which can soon become boring.
This is the reason why books are not set in sans serif faces. A grotesk is, on the other hand, always a good thing to have for showing different degrees of emphasis in headings, marginal notes , captions registers and so on. It can be used for any service that accompanies a book including its titlings. Besides, we frequently find a text where we need to identify the individual speaking or writing persons through different typefaces.
