A good looking family of serifs, Canela font has many visual details, which make it unique and a great choice for both display and body text at any size. Designed by Miguel Reyes, its shapes are in a gray zone, where it is neither a sans nor a serif, both round and straight, modern but with the classic in its roots. Canela started out as an interpretation of Caslon, but Reyes moved the family to another and unusual direction, and he eliminated its serifs, and the flaring at the end of some strokes that he left is now only vestigial, giving it a monumental feel that was influenced by his experience in stone carving.
Canela appeared in issue 5 of the fashion and art magazine Document Journal, where its austere elegance suited a sad fashion time. Subtle at its lightest, with its softly flaring strokes, as it gets to the heaviest janitors it becomes a totally different feeling of warmth with a quiet assurance.
