This “shadows” are created from the originally empty outlines in the “Via Appia” font. In a graphic program, when the same text is typed in two texts frames, one in the normal font and other in the shadow font, and the frames are precisely superimposed, you see all the letters and shadows. When you are done, paint the two frames with different colors or gradients.
